Predictive and Evolutive Cross-Referencing for Web Textual Sources

2017

International audience; One of the main challenges in the domain of competitive intelligence is to harness important volumes of information from the web, and extract the most valuable pieces of information. As the amount of information available on the web grows rapidly and is very heterogeneous, this process becomes overwhelming for experts. To leverage this challenge, this paper presents a vision for a novel process that performs cross-referencing at web scale. This process uses a focused crawler and a semantic-based classifier to cross-reference textual items without expert intervention, based on Big Data and Semantic Web technologies. The system is described thoroughly, and interests of…

Application of infrared spectroscopy as Process Analytics Technology (PAT) approach in biodiesel production process utilizing Multivariate Curve Reso…

2019

Abstract Process Analytical Technology means at-line collection of analytical information from the process when the reaction is in progress. Obtained information enables process engineers to better control the Critical Process Parameters and direct the reaction to desirable routs. Near-infrared spectroscopy due to its analytical features, as well as the high capability of automation, versatile sampling and spectral acquisition methods is a useful tool in process monitoring when coupled to chemometrics. The Multiple Scatter Correction preprocessing technique and Alternative Least Square method can extract spectral and concentration information of a reaction mixture simultaneously, were emplo…

Bilevel heat exchanger network synthesis with an interactive multi-objective optimization method

2012

Abstract Heat exchanger network synthesis (HENS) has been an active research area for more than 40 years because well-designed heat exchanger networks enable heat recovery in process industries in an energy- and cost-efficient manner. Due to ever increasing global competition and need to decrease the harmful effects done on the environment, there still is a continuous need to improve the heat exchanger networks and their synthesizing methods. In this work we present a HENS method that combines an interactive multi-objective optimization method with a simultaneous bilevel HENS method, where the bilevel part of the method is based on grouping of process streams and building aggregate streams …

Continuous monitoring of an intentionally-manufactured crack using an automated welding and in-process inspection system

2020

Abstract Automated weld deposition coupled with the real-time robotic Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) is used in this paper. For performance verification of the in-process inspection system, an intentionally embedded defect, a tungsten rod, is introduced into the multi-pass weld. A partially-filled groove (staircase) sample is also manufactured and ultrasonically tested to calibrate the real-time inspection implemented on all seven layers of the weld which are deposited progressively. The tungsten rod is successfully detected in the real-time NDE of the deposited position. The same robotic inspection system was then used to continuously monitor an intentionally-manufactured crack for 20 h.…

Distributed intelligent control of exceptions in reconfigurable manufacturing systems

2003

In order to react to the continuous and unpredictable changes in product demand, in product variety, and in process technologies, reconfigurable manufacturing systems allow quick adjustment of production capacity and functionality by rearranging or changing their modular components. In this kind of system, operation management issues, such as exception handling policies, become more complex since correct reconfiguration strategies have to be selected. This paper explores the potential of the reconfigurability feature to be a basis for the development of new strategies to handle out-of-the-ordinary events in the production process; in particular, maintaining production flow when machine brea…

A double genetic algorithm for the MRCPSP/max

2011

This paper presents a heuristic solution procedure for a very general resource-constrained project scheduling problem. Here, multiple execution modes are available for the individual activities of the project. In addition, minimum as well as maximum time lags between different activities may be given. The objective is to determine a mode and a start time for each activity such that the temporal and resource constraints are met and the project duration is minimised. Project scheduling problems of this type occur e.g. in process industries. The heuristic is a two-phased genetic algorithm with different representation, fitness, crossover operator, etc., in each of them. One of the contribution…

Stability Analysis of Large Scale Networks of Autonomous Work Systems with Delays

2011

This paper considers the problem of stability analysis for a class of production networks of autonomous work systems with delays in the capacity changes. The system under consideration does not share information between work systems and the work systems adjust capacity with the objective of maintaining a desired amount of local work in progress (WIP). Attention is focused to derive explicit sufficient delay-dependent stability conditions for the network using properties of matrix norm. Finally, numerical results are provided to demonstrate the proposed approach.

CY-Operators and L-Functions

2019

This a write up of a talk given at the MATRIX conference at Creswick in 2017 (to be precise, on Friday, January 20, 2017). It reports on work in progress with P. Candelas and X. de la Ossa. The aim of that work is to determine, under certain conditions, the local Euler factors of the L-functions of the fibres of a family of varieties without recourse to the equations of the varieties in question, but solely from the associated Picard–Fuchs equation.

Local capacity H<inf>∞</inf> control for production networks of autonomous work systems with time-varying delays

2009

This paper considers the problem of local capacity H ∞ control for a class of production networks of autonomous work systems with time-varying delays in the capacity changes. The system under consideration is modelled in a discrete-time singular form. Attention is focused on the design of a controller gain for the local capacity adjustments which maintains the work in progress (WIP) in each work system in the vicinity of planned levels and guarantees the asymptotic stability of the system and reduces the effect of the disturbance input on the controlled output to a prescribed level. In terms of a matrix inequality, a sufficient condition for the solvability of this problem is presented usin…
